Background and Practice
I have lived and worked in Seattle for over 26 years. During that time I have maintained a private practice in Neuromuscular Therapy and Five Element Acupuncture. Since 1987, I've been teaching Anatomy, Kinesiology, Corrective Exercise and advanced techniques to treat acute/chronic pain and injury. My work is supported by both experience and mastery in working with the human body, including over 20 years as a professional dancer and Pilates instructor. My love of movement began as a child running as fast as I could to race and beat the older boys home from school, which I succeeded in doing! I loved jumping rope, ballet classes, and hosting dance parties for the neighborhood kids with my two sisters.
My interest in movement and teaching led me to design a special degree at Southern Illinois University where I received a B.S. in Movement Therapy. After graduation, as my professional dance career progressed, I encountered many people with musculoskeletal injuries. I decided to learn about physical rehabilitation through the profession of Massage Therapy. While in private practice and working with naturopathic physicians, physiatrists, physical therapists, and primary care doctors, I learned a lot about what the various modalities have to offer, including nutrition and post-op care and rehabilitation. I also educated my colleagues about the benefits of specific application of soft tissue work. A wonderful referral network was established. I taught at Seattle Massage School and travelled throughout the US and Europe presenting seminars on Neuromuscular Therapy, Postural Analysis, and Gait Analysis.
After 20 years of doing professional body work, I decided to study acupuncture as a way to benefit my clients in deeper ways; addressing the various organ systems of the body, emotional balance, and faster rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries. Upon further research, I decided on Five Element Acupuncture because of its relationship to the Laws of Nature, which are organic in approach.
I am nationally certified by the National Council of Colleges of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) as a Diplomate in Acupuncture. I have also completed a Five Element Graduate program with master acupuncturist, Niki Bilton.
With each individual client, I assess and develop a personalized Five Element treatment plan to address both the alleviation of symptoms and the underlying imbalance. My integrative treatment approach is a synthesis of intellect, compassionate heart, intuition, and 30+ years of experience in private practice.
As a Five Element Acupuncturist, I work with you for your optimum health, pain relief, and balance in your life.
