The Five Elements

Five Element Acupuncture has been used for over 2000 years as a method of Chinese Medicine diagnosis and treatment. According to ancient Chinese philosophy, the entire universe can be observed and experienced through the Five Elements: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water. The Five Elements correspond to the natural world and are reflected in each of us. Each element has particular qualities and characteristics that help us move smoothly through life as well as other characteristics which can impede this flow.

The Five Element system is sophisticated and at its core, recognizes that no two individuals are alike. Each individual is unique in body, mind and spirit, and therefore unique in how he/she expresses the qualities and characteristics of the elements.

The Five Element practitioner addresses each individual based on his/her specific presentation as viewed through the lens of Five Element theory. No two individuals are ever treated the same. For example, the approach to an individual who has chronic headaches and a Wood constitution would be different from the approach used for an individual who has chronic headaches and a Metal constitution.

Restoring internal harmony is the intent of this elegant system. After a treatment, individuals commonly experience a renewed sense of calm, increased focus, and reduced stress.
